Images & Words - Primavera

(Spring in 'The New Life' by Dante Alighieri)

[Botticelli's Primavera is a photo I took in the Uffizi Museum - Dec 2011]

Dante saw coming towards him a lady who was very famous for her beauty, her right name was Joan; but because of her comeliness she was called of many Primavera (Spring). Then looking again, he perceived that the most noble Beatrice followed after her. And he gave to Beatrice his own name: Love.

With this in mind he composed the poem that ends with the verses I included in the picture above.

“Memory's images, once they are fixed in words, are erased," Polo said.
"Perhaps I am afraid of losing Venice all at once, if I speak of it,
Or perhaps, speaking of other cities, I have already lost it, little by little.”
